Overview
Wakie is a voice communication app that uses AI and machine learning to match users with the right person to discuss any question. The company was created in Russia and is led by CEO Hrachik Adjamian; it is based in Mountain View, California. Wakie's product initially used preset topics but has pivoted to allow users to create custom topics. The app learns the life experience of each user to improve matching. It already connects users in over 1,000,000 voice calls per week. Wakie raised an additional $1M in funding from backers including Y Combinator and unnamed American angel investors, and is also backed by Leta Capital. Wakie is a free mobile app that connects people for real live human wake-up calls through a community of callers (Wakies) and receivers (Sleepyheads). A Sleepyhead sets an alarm and, at the wake-up time, the app connects them for a one-minute, encrypted call with a Wakie of similar age and the opposite gender; phone numbers are never shared. Led by CEO Hrachik Adjamian, the app is available for Android and Windows Phone and will be on iOS soon; it is the English-language, international version of the makers' Russian app Budist. The makers of Budist have facilitated 30 million wake-up calls from 1.5 million users. Wakie intends to use the newly raised funds to expand the service to an English-speaking audience. The service is accessed via www.wakie.com.
