Overview
Walden Biosciences is a biotechnology company focused on transforming the treatment of kidney disease by developing therapies that aim to restore renal function rather than only slow decline. The company is developing first-in-class, highly targeted therapeutics that address podocyte biology and kidney-specific pathways. Walden has active programs against two novel targets: soluble urokinase plasminogen activating receptor (suPAR) and dynamin, with the goal of reducing proteinuria and improving glomerular filtration. The company says inhibiting suPAR could reduce kidney inflammation and proteinuria, while stimulating dynamin could restore podocyte structural integrity. Walden launched with a $51 million Series A financing led by ARCH Venture Partners and UCB Ventures and intends to use that capital to advance its discovery and preclinical development efforts. The team includes executive leadership (Blaine McKee, Ph.D., CEO; Alex Duncan, Ph.D., CSO) and founders drawn from academic nephrology and molecular biology.
