Wallit
1900 Addison St, Berkeley, CA, 94704, US
Overview
Wallit is a location-based social app that enables users to check in at places and leave messages — including augmented-reality-style photos — on location-specific "walls." The app was built by Veysel Berk, a Berkeley-based post-doc candidate in image processing, and launches with 700 pre-created walls across global cities. Users can view who’s nearby, browse walls worldwide, and post only when physically at a wall. When walls get busy, posts are ranked via a "social character index" that weights media types and prioritizes higher-profile users. Wallit is free to consumers and plans to monetize by selling branded walls, super-walls and advertising/partner promotion placements; terms of that monetization are still being finalized. The company kicked off with a $1.2M seed/angel raise to support the product and launch activity, including a planned "super wall" for Apple Store iPad launch events.
