Walrus.ai offers an API-based "outsourced engineering" QA service that runs diagnostics and automated tests using simple text descriptions of planned user interfaces. The founders—Jake Marsh, Akshay Nathan and Scott White—started the business in 2018 after leaving Wealthfront and spun it out from their earlier Monolist project. The team built Walrus.ai in response to brittle, inflexible browser-testing frameworks that struggled to recreate real user interactions. Its product aims to reduce test fragility and the engineering time spent debugging flaky tests by accepting natural-language prompts to define tests. The company competes with outsourced QA providers like Rainforest QA, test recorders such as Mabel and Testim, and frameworks including Selenium and Cypress. Walrus.ai currently has only tens of paying customers and recently raised $4 million in a new round of financing.
