WarpStream builds a cloud-native data streaming service that implements the Apache Kafka protocol but is designed from the ground up for the cloud era. The product separates compute from storage and uses cloud object storage (e.g., Amazon S3) to eliminate inter-zone networking costs and offload durability and replication responsibilities. The company offers two deployment options: a bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC) install, available starting today, and a fully managed serverless option. Founders Richard Artoul (CEO) and Ryan Worl (CTO) previously worked at Datadog, where they helped build a storage system called Husky. WarpStream has nine employees and is hiring, with plans to roughly double headcount by the end of the year. The company announced a $20 million investment to support its product and growth plans.
