Wasted
Binckhorstlaan 36, Unit C174, Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, 2516 BE, The Netherlands
Overview
Wasted designs port-a-potties that separate urine from feces and processes the collected urine into fertilizer-grade products. Its initial units resemble regular port-a-potties but route urine to a separate tank to slow urea breakdown and preserve nitrogen. Collected urine is trucked to processing facilities where it is sterilized to remove pathogens and pharmaceuticals before being repurposed for agriculture. The company is deploying 200 port-a-potties to construction and event sites around Burlington, Vermont and plans to expand to a second market next year. Founders Brophy Tyree (co-founder and CEO), Thor Retzlaff and Taylor Zehren emphasize the modularity and margins of the port-a-potty industry as a path to scale. Longer term, Wasted aims to serve as a backup or potential replacement for traditional sewage systems, especially in regions with underdeveloped sanitation.
