Watchful is a Tel Aviv-based startup coming out of stealth that helps companies learn what competitors are testing in mobile apps. It identifies unreleased features and annotates changes in user flows by analyzing the different app variants produced by A/B tests and staged rollouts. The company captures videos and screenshots from a panel of real users' devices, anonymizes that data, runs computer-vision differential analysis, and uses a Philippines-based annotation team plus human analysts to produce reports. Customers are primarily large social-network and e-commerce players, mainly in the U.S., who buy annual contracts priced by the number of apps tracked. Co-founder and CEO Itay Kahana, who previously founded Any.do, leads the company. Watchful has raised a $3 million seed round led by Vertex Ventures.
