Weaveworks builds the Weave Kubernetes Platform (WKP), a GitOps-powered Kubernetes platform that automates configuration management and the full application lifecycle. WKP is built on open-source components, integrates with Amazon EKS, and enables operations teams to control, secure and audit cluster configurations while giving developers a Git-based on-ramp. The company targets enterprises, telecommunications providers and edge/5G deployments that require scalable, secure and standards-based operating models for cloud-native applications. Weaveworks will use the $36.65M Series C to enhance its GitOps platform and accelerate market expansion. The business reported two years of triple-digit growth and has now raised $60M to date. It is community-built and enterprise-approved, an early member and one of the top 10 contributors to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, and operates out of London and San Francisco. Weaveworks develops a suite of open-source tools to manage, monitor and secure containers, helping teams visualize and coordinate container lifecycles. The company plans to package its open-source products into an integrated commercial offering. It also intends to offer a cloud service, which is currently in beta. Proceeds from the financing will be used to build the commercial product and expand beyond early adopters. CEO Alexis Richardson said the next step is an integrated commercial offering built from the open-source products. With this round Weaveworks has raised $20 million to date. Weaveworks (formerly Zettio) builds a software-defined network that lets Docker network containers across multiple hosts, acting like a virtual ethernet switch connecting containers. The service integrates with other Docker-ecosystem projects including CoreOS and Kubernetes. The company launched in September and quickly became one of the top Docker-related projects on GitHub. It also released a preview of weaveDNS, a distributed DNS for service discovery on Weave networks. Weaveworks was founded by Alexis Richardson and Matthias Radestock, the team behind RabbitMQ. The company says early adopters report large gains from containerization and plans to focus on ease of use while expanding product development and its U.S. organization.
