Webflakes selects established lifestyle bloggers from countries including Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Switzerland and Peru and licenses the rights to their content in every language except the original. A team of volunteer translators translates that content into English and posts it on Webflakes' site. For now neither the bloggers nor the translators are paid; Webflakes donates $1 for every 500 words translated to a charity chosen by the translator. The site is focused on lifestyle topics such as fashion, food, travel and architecture, where the blogger’s nationality is a draw. Webflakes launched publicly today with 60 licensed bloggers and plans to add more writers and translators and to expand into other kinds of content. The company says it may offer revenue-sharing deals to bloggers and translators in the future.
