Overview
Webflow is a San Francisco-based no-code visual web development platform led by CEO Vlad Magdalin that generates code to let people and teams build and adapt web-based businesses without months of developer work. The company targets freelancers, agencies, small and medium businesses and larger teams, aiming to democratize building for the web. Webflow powers sites for customers including PwC, MURAL, Rakuten, TED and Univision. The platform reports more than 3.5 million users and over 450,000 sites built in 2021. Following its Series C, the company plans to expand further into the enterprise, pursue acquisitions to accelerate platform value, and invest in its community. As part of that community investment it is launching a $10M grant program to fund learning and development resources to help creators build businesses on Webflow. Webflow provides a no-code website builder along with hosting and content-related capabilities that let non-developers create richer web experiences. The company has expanded beyond consumer and SMB use cases and is beginning to target enterprise customers, which today represent roughly 5% of its business. Webflow doubled its customer base in 2020 and reported that its business overall doubled that year. The firm ended 2020 cash-flow positive after bootstrapping for more than a half-decade before taking external capital. Management says future product plans include building out richer site-creation capabilities and investing in platform, enterprise products, support, and recruiting. Leadership views the new capital as "courage capital" to fund initiatives that may not yield short-term revenue impacts. Webflow is a no-code web development platform that enables users to create websites and apps. Co-founded in 2013 by Vlad Magdalin, Bryant Chou and Sergie Magdalin, the company is based in San Francisco, CA. Webflow serves a customer base that ranges from individual freelancers to Fortune 500 companies, reporting over 45,000 customers and more than 1M users. The company has a team of 120+ employees. Webflow raised $72M in a Series A financing and intends to use the proceeds to expand operations and broaden its business reach. As part of the financing, Arun Mathew of Accel will join Webflow’s board. Webflow provides a drag-and-drop visual website builder that generates W3C-compliant HTML5 and CSS3, allowing designers to create responsive sites without learning code. The product supports common web elements (sliders, maps, buttons, videos, social widgets) and targets freelancers and agencies. The company has grown its user base from about 10,000 last summer to nearly 100,000, with roughly 30% month-over-month user growth. Monthly revenue is about ten times higher than at launch and many users now pay for plans ranging from $14/month to $70/month. Webflow is focused on product development and team growth, building a new editor for business owners and adding support for dynamic sites like shops and blogs with a planned fall launch. The company operates with a small team (about six employees) and recently added hires that delayed immediate profitability.
