Overview

Webiny offers an open-source serverless CMS and the underlying serverless framework that customers use to build content platforms and custom serverless apps. The company launched in 2019 and founder Sven Al Hamad says customer interest shifted toward the framework the team used to build the CMS. Webiny hosts a Slack community with close to 1,000 developers and currently has nine employees, with plans to add about six more over the remainder of 2021. The startup intends to commercialize its open-source offerings by building enterprise products with management features, single sign-on, and enhanced security for complex environments. The new capital will be used to continue developing both the CMS and the serverless framework and to build out the company. The framework is designed to help developers write functions, triggers, custom APIs and business logic while abstracting infrastructure management. Webiny is an open-source, serverless CMS designed to help developers build and deploy serverless websites, applications, and GraphQL APIs on platforms like AWS Lambda. The platform provides tools and ready-made apps such as a Static Page Builder and File Manager, with additional apps and plugins planned, including a Form Builder and a Headless CMS. Webiny aims to simplify deployment and operations by removing infrastructure management, leveraging serverless benefits like pay-per-request scaling and reduced DevOps overhead. The company plans to expand platform support to Microsoft’s Azure Functions and Google’s Cloud Functions as part of its roadmap. Leadership includes CEO Sven Al Hamad and CTO Pavel Denisjuk, who emphasise developer productivity and enterprise performance and security. Financially, Webiny announced its first funding round of €312k, which will be used to expand the team, execute the product roadmap, and build an open-source community.
