WEconnect is a healthcare-technology company offering a mobile app to support patients in their first year of recovery after substance abuse treatment. The app provides a network of support, easy check-ins with counselors, rewards for recovery activities, and a proprietary relapse risk score that identifies risk before it happens. WEconnect says its evidence-based techniques have helped thousands of patients and are being adopted by treatment centers such as Volunteers of America and Zepf Center, with potential to reach more than 20,000 post-treatment patients. The company reports its methods can reduce relapse rates by 50 percent and emphasizes delivering empathetic, data-driven care. WEconnect was first released in 2016 and was initially funded with $260,000 from angel investors. It is led by co-founders Murphy Jensen and CEO Daniela Tudor and recently closed a $6.05 million Series A. WeConnect is an app-based support platform for people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, offering context-sensitive notifications, a daily dashboard, and geofencing to verify attendance at recovery meetings. The product includes an SOS button to alert selected contacts, a private non-searchable network model, and a rewards element that issues recovery-focused incentives like coffee coupons and yoga classes. The team describes itself as a social purpose corporation; co-founder Daniela Tudor developed the idea during rehab and has been working on the app since 2014. WeConnect launched a closed beta in June and is being used by in-patient treatment centers in Arizona, Washington and California while the team gathers data to prove the app can reduce relapse rates. Their monetization strategy targets treatment providers and insurers: an early-adopter price of $365 per patient per year billed to treatment centers, and plans to sell data to providers and pitch insurers once efficacy data is available. The company intends to expand beyond substance addiction into other recovery areas such as eating disorders, domestic-violence programs and technology-addiction recovery.
