Weezy

Flat 411, 119 Newington Causeway, London, England, SE1 6DX, United Kingdom

Overview

Weezy operates an on-demand grocery delivery service that promises average delivery times under 15 minutes, using its own delivery people on pedal cycles and electric mopeds. The company sources goods from wholesalers as well as independent bakers, butchers and markets. Launched in July 2020, Weezy is expanding across London and the broader UK, planning two new fulfillment centers in London and about 40 additional U.K. sites by the end of 2021. It intends to add 50 new employees in the next four months to support that expansion. The service has benefited from pandemic-driven demand for online grocery shopping. Founders Kristof Van Beveren and Alec Dent bring consumer goods and operations backgrounds from Procter & Gamble, McKinsey, Drover and BlaBlaCar. Weezy operates a 15-minute grocery delivery app that combines strategically located fulfilment centres with an in-house fleet of electric mopeds and bicycles to pick, pack and deliver orders. The service targets time-poor professionals and parents and launched in Fulham and Chelsea, running daily between 10am and 10pm with a £2.95 delivery fee. Groceries are sourced from wholesalers and local independent bakers, butchers and markets, which the company says supports local businesses. Weezy optimises small fulfilment spaces for fast picking and packing and trains riders to work in fulfilment centres, which it says keeps costs down and enables rapid deliveries. The startup plans to open up to 15 more fulfilment centres in London by the end of next year before expanding across the U.K. Weezy launched out of stealth backed by £1 million in pre-seed funding.
