WellnessFX is a San Francisco, CA–based consumer-directed personalized wellness and health startup led by founder and CEO Jim Kean. The company provides individuals a platform that combines diagnostic tools and medical research with rich visualizations and summaries plus expert consultations to measure, understand, and improve health. WellnessFX has secured its second funding round of an undisclosed amount led by Javelin Venture Partners. In conjunction with the financing, Jed M. Katz of Javelin will join the board and Alex Gurevich will serve as a board observer; existing board members include Mike Maples (Floodgate), Tim Ferris, and Curtis Feeney (Voyager Capital). The company intends to use the funds to expand commercialization beyond California, launching in Oregon and Washington in early January. WellnessFX is also hiring to support its growth. WellnessFX is an online concierge service that helps consumers organize, monitor and improve personal health. It positions itself as the “Mint.com of health,” using affordable diagnostic tests to provide frequent, understandable, measurable results that inform daily actions. The service is supported by a virtual practitioner team and uses social media tools and a consumer web user experience to deliver guidance on lifestyle changes, nutrition or medications when appropriate. The company is led by Jim Kean, founder of Sapient Health Network, which became the foundation of WebMD’s consumer health business in 1995, and focuses on preventative medicine and removing barriers to screenings and tests. WellnessFX has 13 employees and has raised $1.85 million from Voyager Capital, Floodgate and a handful of angels; it was in stealth to become HIPAA compliant and is preparing a new fundraising round after recent tech upgrades and tester feedback.
