Wethos operates an online platform that matches freelancers—designers, engineers, social media managers and copywriters—with nonprofit organizations. The company was founded in 2016 by Rachel Renock, Claire Humphreys and Kristen Ablamsky while they were working at a large ad agency in NYC. Wethos emphasizes matching talent with causes the freelancers care about rather than just side gigs. The platform is free for nonprofit organizations; freelancers who land jobs through Wethos are charged a 15% fee. Within six months of launch the site attracted more than 1,000 freelancers; it currently lists about 1,500 freelancers and 300 nonprofits. Wethos has a partnership with Rise to Run to support progressive young women running for office.
