When I Work
420 N 5th St Ste 500, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55401, United States
Overview
When I Work builds a messaging and shift-scheduling app for hourly and shift-based teams. Employees use it to sign up for shifts, trade shifts, and notify management when they cannot make a shift; managers use it to schedule and communicate with staff. The company has expanded features to include payroll facilitation, labor reports and analytics, and leadership expects that product area to grow both organically and via acquisition. It says the app is used by about 10 million hourly workers across roughly 200,000 U.S. businesses, with customers including Dunkin', Ace Hardware, Ben & Jerry's and Kenneth Cole. Management reports the company has been profitable since June of last year and is growing at north of 35%. The business plans to use the new funding for business development and product expansion while doubling down in the U.S. and beginning to move into other international markets. When I Work builds a mobile-first platform for hourly employee scheduling and time‑clocking, letting employees clock in via smartphone and enabling managers to integrate schedules with payroll. The company plans to expand communication and collaboration features purpose-built for the hourly, "desk-less" workforce. Its platform reaches 2 million employees at 50,000 workplaces, including about 15,000 nurses and customers such as Munchery, Foodpanda and Uber’s community service team. The startup is Minneapolis-based and led by founder and CEO Chad Halvorson. As of this round the company has raised $24 million in total financing to date. It intends to use the new funding to hire engineering, product, sales and marketing talent and accelerate product development. ThisCLICKS, founded in 2010 and led by CEO Chad Halvorson, provides cloud-based mobile labor management software. It offers two products — When I Work, a mobile-focused scheduling and communication platform, and WageBase, a mobile time, attendance and payroll tracker for hourly employees. The company serves about 3,000 companies worldwide, representing roughly 200,000 employees across the US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia, including customers such as The UPS Store, Aspen Snowmass, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, and SoundCloud. ThisCLICKS recently received $4M in Series A funding. The company plans to use the capital to add employees, accelerate product development by expanding current offerings and developing tablet versions of When I Work and WageBase for Android and iPad, and to drive customer acquisition.
