Overview

Whisper is an anonymous social‑sharing app that lets users share thoughts and emotions anonymously and discover others doing the same. The company updated its app to highlight related posts, surface categories, add a search function, and launch an Explore tab with a map to view posts by location. Those features are intended to make the feed more personalized and help users find others who share similar themes or feelings. The home page now foregrounds categories to help users who don’t post find relevant content, and the app shows related Whispers whenever a user creates a new post. CEO Michael Heyward said the focus is on giving everyone access to all the Whispers and making what people see more relevant. About half of all active users contribute content, according to the company. Whisper is a mobile app that enables anonymous text-over-image posts, allowing users to upload their own photos or search the internet for images and add confessional text. The app surfaces popular secrets based on responses and "hearts," and lets users discover posts shared nearby. It launched last November and attracts predominantly young users in the 18–24 bracket. Whisper offers private messaging behind a $5.99/month paywall, combining virality with a direct monetization channel. The app reports roughly 2.5 billion page views per month, over 40% of users create content, and the average daily user spends about 30 minutes in the app. That engagement and monetization mix has been a draw for investors. Whisper is a mobile app that lets users anonymously share short confessions or "whispers" by overlaying text on images and browsing others’ posts. The product offers public feeds ranked by hearts/responses and a paid private-messaging feature that lets users connect off-feed. Messaging is the primary revenue driver and is growing faster than other usage, with essentially zero churn among paying messaging users. The app has scaled to roughly 1.5 billion page views per month and handles millions of private messages. Whisper recently launched on Android after initially being iOS-only, quickly achieving about 50,000 downloads in the first 48 hours and engagement on par with or better than iOS; roughly 40% of initial Android users created Whispers. The team currently has 14 employees and plans to add more hires in the near term.
