Whistle

1355 Market St #210, San Francisco, CA, 94103, United States

Overview

Whistle makes pet wearables including an activity tracker that snaps into a collar mount and a GPS-enabled device for locating lost dogs. The company launched its Fitbit-for-dogs product in 2013 and secured distribution deals with major retailers such as PetSmart, enabling device shipments at scale. Whistle introduced a WhistleGPS product that combines GPS and a specialized cellular technology, with a promised ship date of “late 2015” on its site. It has acquired competitor Tagg (a Qualcomm subsidiary), whose shipping hardware offers 7–14 day battery life and U.S. data connectivity. Tagg will continue to be sold at PetTracker.com and is slated for full integration into Whistle’s platform by the end of the year, with existing Tagg owners supported without interruption. The company says it will use new funding to expand its product line and grow the business while building a central smart-pet platform that leverages data from connected products. Whistle builds a $99 wearable activity and health tracker that attaches to a dog’s collar and measures motion with a three‑axis accelerometer. The device includes WiFi and Bluetooth to detect location contexts (e.g., home or riding in a car) and to sync data to Whistle’s dashboard. Whistle provides free smartphone and web apps and emphasizes its cloud analytics and aggregated canine‑health dataset to benchmark activity and health by age, breed and weight. The company is positioning the tracker as the entry point to a broader pet brand and plans additional products and services, plus upsells. Go‑to‑market plans include pursuing retail partnerships (PetSmart/Petco categories) and veterinary channels to drive distribution and lead generation. Whistle has raised capital to support product rollout, platform development and those channel efforts.
