Wiggio, founded in late 2008 and based in Cambridge, offers a free online collaboration service for work groups and students that launched in 2009. The platform includes calendars, file sharing, web conferencing, group polls, and text/voice messaging. Since launch it has attracted about 350,000 users and 750 schools, and the user base grew roughly 43% in the prior six months. The company has focused on the college market while also serving small businesses and non-profits and plans to expand marketing toward high schools and small businesses. Wiggio is preparing a shift from free to freemium with a paid “pro” tier planned next month featuring increased customization, security upgrades, hourly backups, and a scheduling tool; pricing for the pro package has not been set. Management says monetization strategies, including targeted advertising, are still being crafted and hopes to be profitable by early 2011.
