Wikifactory is an online platform that enables developers, designers, engineers and startups to collaborate, prototype and produce hardware solutions in real time. Led by Executive Chairman Nicolai Peitersen, the company is building the "Internet of Production," a distributed, interoperable, open-standards system linking product definitions, software services and manufacturing-as-a-service (MaaS). More than 130,000 product developers from over 190 countries use the platform to build robotics, electric vehicles, drones, agri-tech, sustainable energy appliances, lab equipment, 3D printers, smart furniture, biotech fashion materials and medical devices. The company soft-launched a manufacturing marketplace earlier in the year offering online quotes, global delivery and faster production for CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing and injection moulding across 150+ materials and presets via global and local manufacturers. Wikifactory intends to use the new funds to grow that manufacturing marketplace and broaden its prototyping and production services. Wikifactory operates a collaboration platform and a Collaborative CAD Tool with in-built chat that lets designers, engineers, manufacturers and enterprises review and discuss 3D models in more than 30 file formats in real time. The company positions itself as a way to democratize access to typically expensive product lifecycle management (PLM) software and to enable remote production with less shipping and lower inventory costs. Since May 2019 the platform reports about 70,000 product developers across 190 countries using it to build robotics, EVs, drones, agritech, lab equipment, 3D printers, smart furniture, biotech fashion materials and medical supplies including PPE and ventilators. With the new funding Wikifactory plans to build a "quality-assured" manufacturing marketplace and deploy mirrored servers in China to open access to Shenzhen's hardware capital. It is available in four languages today and plans to expand to 20 languages after a planned Series A. Co-founder and executive chairman Nicolai Peitersen has framed the effort as creating an "internet of production" for distributed manufacturing.
