Overview
Ebuzzing, formerly Wikio Group, operates a European social marketing platform and owns Overblog, a leading blog platform with over 28 million unique visitors per month (Comscore). The company provides routes for marketers to promote brands on social media, with a focus on viral video distribution. Ebuzzing made $15 million in revenue in 2010 and expects $25 million in revenue for the current year. It employs over 160 staff and maintains offices in Basel, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, London, Luxembourg, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Toulouse and Rome. The firm has pursued M&A to grow its footprint, acquiring smaller marketing platforms such as Trigami. Management says the new financing will be used to speed up growth across Europe. Wikio operates a news-aggregation and social-news site positioned as a European alternative to Digg, Google News and Technorati. The company is based in Luxembourg and recently launched English, German and Spanish versions of the site. Financially, Wikio has closed a €4 million ($5.3 million) Series A round. That Series A was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners along with Gemini Israel Funds. Prior to the Series A the company raised an undisclosed angel round backed by investors including Loic Le Meur, Martin Varsavsky, Freddy Mini, Ouriel Ohayon and Jeff Clavier. TechCrunch notes that Ouriel Ohayon is both an investor and a board member at Wikio and expresses skepticism about the product’s readiness to compete with established players.
