Wilco is an Israeli startup that offers an immersive upskilling platform simulating a workplace where developers complete quests to practice real-world software engineering skills. The platform places engineers in a fictional company and uses game-like scenarios in which users diagnose production issues, reproduce bugs, use real tools (including GitHub and workplace messaging apps), and push fixes. Wilco emerged from stealth with a first public version and announced $7 million in seed funding to support growth. The company has formed partnerships with developer-tool vendors such as New Relic, JFrog and Applitools to co-create quests that teach hands-on use of production tools. Over the next 18 months Wilco plans to expand its quest catalog, add quest-creation tools, build a business edition, and bring in additional partners to co-create content. Prior to launch the team invited hundreds of developers to try the platform as validation, and investors have provided strategic guidance while the founders emphasize building a fun, supportive culture.
