Overview
WildEarth develops clean, high-protein vegan pet foods and treats made from Koji (Aspergillus oryzae), a complete protein source the company says requires far fewer resources than animal agriculture. The company’s current products include Good Protein Dog Snacks and it is developing an upcoming dog food. WildEarth says its veterinarian-developed formula is free of animal ingredients, antibiotics, growth hormones, artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, additives, and fillers. The startup was founded in 2017 by Abril Estrada, Kristin Wuhrman, Ron Shigeta, and Ryan Bethencourt and is based in Berkeley, California. Prior to the recent deal it had raised $4 million from leading Silicon Valley and impact investors. Since the investment cited in the article, the company says it has launched its first three products and expanded nationwide both online and in retail. WildEarth positions its mission around reducing the environmental impact of pet food and aims to help sustainably nourish more than a billion pets by 2050.
