Wisconsin Battery Company is a benefit corporation focused on research, development and manufacturing of clean, renewable energy storage alternatives. The company is developing a hemp‑carbon battery in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin‑Milwaukee. WinBat plans to use new funding to develop prototypes and to construct and build out a manufacturing facility in Portage, Wisconsin. It received a $5 million investment from Infinite Power Systems that has funded 87.5% of its seed round. WinBat will collaborate with IPS to identify business opportunities in the African market, while IPS leverages its network and capital to bring WinBat’s energy‑storage technologies to ventures in Africa. As part of the partnership WinBat has committed to producing batteries in Africa and sourcing raw materials, including hemp, to support those efforts.
