Overview
Founded in 2022, Windcoop is a maritime cooperative that aims to decarbonize shipping by designing and operating wind-powered cargo vessels. Its first ship, the 91-metre Miaraka, is now under construction at the RMK Marine yard in Turkey and will carry 1,500 m² of sails, enabling a France-to-Madagascar crossing in 30 days while targeting a 60 % reduction in CO₂ emissions versus conventional freight. The cooperative’s ownership model has attracted 2,463 member-shareholders who finance the fleet and are expected to become customers. Cumulatively, Windcoop has raised €7.7 million from citizens, clients and partners, including the latest €1.4 million round. The fresh capital will support the build of the Miaraka and future vessels. The company forecasts its first revenues in 2027 when commercial operations begin. By combining community financing with sustainable technology, Windcoop positions itself as a pioneer in low-carbon maritime logistics.
