Wiper is a secure messaging service that gives senders control over when messages, images and calls are deleted from both devices and the service. The app combines ideas from Confide, WhatsApp and Snapchat and is available now on iOS and Android. Users can make phone calls, send images or texts and trigger deletion from their phone, the recipient's phone and Wiper's servers. The service also alerts users when a recipient attempts to copy, screengrab, or photograph content. Founders include Manlio Carrelli (former chief marketing officer at Intermedia), Alex Hoffman (who heads engineering at the company) and Michael Choupak (founder of Intermedia). The team began working on its New York-based technology in late February, and the company has completed a seed financing to support the launch.
