Wire Labs is building a mobile messaging app called Wire, currently in private beta and positioned as a Snapchat competitor for teen users. The app supports photo and video messaging, comments, a feed, stickers, disappearing messages that last 24 hours, and optional message saving. Stickers were noted as a potential future business model signal. Wire first demoed at TechStars Seattle Demo Day and participated in TechStars Seattle. The company has raised $1.8 million in seed funding and had previously reported $150,000 in funding in June. The founding team is led by CEO Piragash Velummylum and CTO Jordan Timmermann, both ex-Amazon engineers who worked on Kindle Fire HD, Amazon Instant Video, Cloud Drive and other Amazon products.
