WISHLYapp
7028 Kearny Drive, Huntington Beach, CA, United States
Overview
Wishly is a social media platform that lets Gen Z users discover, vet, and make small donations to nonprofits, aiming to harness social media for social good. The app was built by social impact marketers and nonprofit fundraisers Joanne Gonzalez-Forster and Justine Makoff and targets the intersection of consumer brands, philanthropists, and nonprofit organizations. Wishly pre-populated the platform with registered U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations pulled from the IRS and vets nonprofits when they claim profiles using IRS standing, Charity Navigator, and Better Business Bureau checks. The company’s business model is to retain 5% of all funds raised on the platform. The app is available on iOS and Android but is currently in a friends-and-family stage ahead of a broader public launch. Financially, Wishly has raised $1.2 million to date: a $400,000 pre-seed in 2020 and a current $800,000 seed from angel investors including Jim Dreyfous and Joshua Mailman.
