Wonder

Kommandantenstrae 77, Berlin, 10117, Germany

Overview

Wonder offers a video-based "shared space" where users see an aerial view of a virtual room and can wander between clusters to meet, network and collaborate in group video chats. Clusters can be public or private and are organized around topics, companies or sessions to enable serendipitous and intentional interactions. The product emphasizes live interaction over repositories of content; planned features include file sharing and document access tied to clusters. The company intends to add features requested by current users and hire more staff, rolling out technical services gradually rather than piling them on quickly. Wonder has seen strong traction, with 200,000 monthly users and customers that include NASA, Deloitte, Harvard and SAP. The app is free for now and the team expects to keep it free until some time in 2021, though customer demand for paid plans may accelerate monetization. Wonder, formerly Yotribe, is a Berlin-based web platform that lets users navigate a 2D space with avatars to join group conversations and events. During beta it amassed some 10,000 active users and was used by organisations including Oxford, Harvard, startups, various government ministries, schools and churches. The product focuses on recreating natural social dynamics by enabling proximity-based video portals with chat and screen-share, plus organiser features such as privacy management and a broadcast mode. Wonder prioritises social interaction first, then plans to gradually add features for workshops and conferences. The company exited beta and made its public debut while disclosing a $1.2 million seed funding round from BlueYard and angel investors. Co-founder Leonard Witteler framed the product as addressing the breakdown of social dynamics in larger online groups and designed the platform to allow spontaneous small-group interactions.
