Woodchuck

2151 Butterworth Road, Walker, MI, United States

Overview

Woodchuck is a Grand Rapids–based climate-tech startup that deploys AI image-recognition, smart containers, and on-site processing hubs to sort and convert construction and manufacturing wood waste into clean biomass fuel. The platform increases diversion rates from under 30 % to above 95 %, giving contractors real-time contamination alerts, carbon accounting, and cost savings. To date, the company has kept more than 13,000 tons of wood out of landfills and lowered waste-hauling expenses for customers by 30–40 %. Major contractors such as Walbridge, Barton Malow, Ford, Amazon, and data-center builders are already using the solution. Woodchuck also supplies standardized biomass feedstock with measured BTUs and CO₂e to regional utilities and industrial energy users. Proceeds from its latest investment will support national expansion into EV battery, semiconductor, and data-center construction hubs, build additional processing sites, and enhance its reporting analytics. The company is backed by an investor syndicate that includes Mason Fink, Beckett Industries, NorthStar Clean Energy, Alloy Partners, and now Michigan Rise.
