Woodlight
300 Bd Sébastien Brant, Illkirch-Graffenstaden, Alsace, 67400, France
Overview
Founded in 2018 in Strasbourg by biologists Ghislain and Rose-Marie Auclair, Woodlight engineers plants capable of emitting their own light through bioluminescence. The startup aims to provide an ecological, continuous and depolluting alternative to conventional lighting. In 2024 it unveiled its first luminous plant prototype at Le Havre, a result of research collaborations with the ESBS and IBMP laboratories. The company plans to complete dark-room performance tests and begin pre-production of its first commercial batch this winter. Woodlight’s vision marries sustainability with aesthetics, offering a poetic form of illumination. Financially, the firm has now secured two capital raises, the latest bringing in €500 000 from repeat private investors to fund its upcoming production milestones.
