Wrightspeed

650 West Tower Ave., Alameda, CA, 94501, United States

Overview

Wrightspeed develops hybrid electric drive systems aimed at high-performance cars and medium to large-sized trucks rather than building complete vehicles. Its marquee product is the Wrightspeed Digital DriveSystem (DDS), which the company says includes the battery system, electric motors and drive electronics, generator control system, vehicle dynamics control, user interface and the software control plane. The DDS’s electric motors are modular, can reach about 250 hp, and are designed to be lightweight at roughly 40 pounds. Wrightspeed’s stated goal is to sell technology that can displace at least 3,000 gallons of fuel per year per high-usage vehicle. The company was founded and is led by Ian Wright, a Tesla co-founder who serves as CEO. David Welch, co-founder and EVP of Infinera, will join Wrightspeed’s board.
