WtEnergy
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Overview
Founded in 2017 in Barcelona, WtEnergy (Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions) has created a proprietary atmospheric gasification technology that transforms solid industrial waste and biomass into synthesis gas. Its modular 5–50 MW plants can be installed on-site at cement, paper, rendering, chemical and ceramic facilities, allowing customers to cut energy costs, lower CO₂ emissions and divert waste from landfills or incineration. The syngas produced can directly replace fossil fuels in thermal and power applications or be upgraded into hydrogen, methanol and sustainable aviation fuel. WtEnergy operates and develops the plants itself, positioning the company as both technology provider and project operator. The firm is now standardising its plant designs, broadening syngas applications and scaling across Europe. Previous industry traction includes a €4.4 million EU grant awarded in 2023 for a waste-to-fuel project with Cemex. While no revenue figures were disclosed, the company cites multiple projects already operating or in advanced development.
