Wuxi Biortus Biosciences is a full-scale contract research organization (CRO) focused on structural biology services for drug discovery. Its core capabilities include target protein production, biochemical, biophysical and cellular assay development, compound screening and characterization, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM (SPA) for protein structure determination, and MicroED for small-molecule crystal form and structure characterization. The company closed a US$15M Series A and intends to use the funds to establish a global cryo-EM innovation center. A research hub is under construction at Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Campus (I·Campus) in collaboration with Wuxi Municipal Government, Wuxi New District and AstraZeneca. Phase one of the hub was scheduled for completion in January 2021 with three newly purchased cryo-EM instruments including a fully loaded Titan Krios 300kV electron microscope. Over the next three years, Biortus Cryo-EM plans to add at least five additional high-end electron microscopes to expand capacity.
