WyzAnt operates a marketplace that lets students search for and connect with tutors by price, rating and distance, with tutor profiles, ratings and student feedback. The platform supports scheduling, payment processing and basic CRM tools for tutors and charges a sliding commission on transactions. The company says it serves 500,000 tutors and over one million students and has accumulated more than 850,000 tutor ratings and reviews. WyzAnt was founded in 2005 and has bootstrapped to more than $100 million in gross sales with roughly 120% annual growth since launch. Product plans include testing online tutoring tools (video chat, messaging, content sharing) and launching native mobile apps in the first half of 2014. The company also plans to expand internationally, hire about 50 new employees (particularly in Chicago, its headquarters), and build out its Resources section.
