X-COR Therapeutics is developing a patent-pending extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal device and accompanying control algorithm that uses ultra-low-blood flows to provide a cheaper, safer, and more accessible treatment for acute respiratory failure. The company says its product is intended to be the first commercially available carbon-dioxide removal device of its kind. X-COR is advancing the filtration system and a compatible dialysate strategy toward clinical testing and regulatory assessment. The firm was added to Alira Health Ventures’ portfolio in 2019 and has continued development through the COVID-19 pandemic. X-COR recently closed a $2.6M seed financing to support progress toward clinical trials. Alira Health’s involvement and the addition of Gabriele Brambilla to the board are cited as accelerants to the company’s development.
