XLV Diagnostics
290 Munro St, Thunder Bay, ON, P7B, Canada
Overview
XLV Diagnostics is a Thunder Bay, Ontario-based company developing a digital X-ray imaging system initially focused on mammography applications. Its core product centers on an X-ray light valve (XLV) that can capture x-ray images on a liquid crystal layer using digital light scanner technology. The captured images can then be read off, analyzed, manipulated and transferred, similar to components of a digital camera. The technology is based on Dr. John Rowlands’ research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute, where he was the founding scientific director. Led by president and CEO Sorin Marcovici, the company intends to use recent funds for continued product development and regulatory approval. The company closed a $3M Series A in May 2014 from Boston-based Bernard M. Gordon Charitable Remainder Unitrust.
