Overview
Xocean builds and operates remotely controlled uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) equipped with sensors that capture high-resolution depth, seafloor topography, subsurface sediment layers, and geological-structure data. The USVs can remain offshore for long periods and use satellites for control and data transmission back to shore. Xocean serves energy and hydrography customers including BP, Shell, and various government agencies. Founded in 2017, the company says its mission is to deliver data that supports sustainable ocean development in a safe, low-impact, and cost-effective way. With the new funding it plans to expand its geographic presence and address additional offshore segments such as wind energy, asset integrity assurance, carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS), and civil hydrography. The company has raised around $189 million since inception. Xocean operates a fleet of uncrewed surface vessels that remain offshore for extended periods to collect large volumes of ocean data. Operators and data analysts remain onshore, connected to the vessels via satellite link, enabling safer, lower-cost and ultra-low-impact data delivery. The company provides services including environmental monitoring and seabed surveys and has delivered data to many of the world’s largest renewable energy companies. Xocean operates in 22 jurisdictions, has harvested over 4 million gigabytes of data and supported the development of 43 GW of new offshore wind capacity. The company says the recent funding will accelerate international growth and drive further technical innovation. Xocean was founded in 2017 and is based in Louth.
