Overview

Conyac operates a crowdsourced translation platform launched in 2009 that connects roughly 10,000 translators covering 60 languages. Its service offers fast turnarounds (clients often receive completed projects within an hour) and pricing that ranges from about $3 per translation to $100/month packages. Conyac uses a tiered community review process in which translators’ work is evaluated multiple times—Yamada says each translator’s work is usually reviewed a total of about 30 times—to improve accuracy and surface higher-scoring translators. The company offers website localization and SEO-focused translation for Japanese startups and has worked with customers including Nulab and SD Japan. Conyac has about 20 employees across Tokyo and San Francisco, plans to open offices in Singapore and Luxembourg, and reported roughly $50,000 in monthly revenue after two initial years without revenue.
