Yardbird is an outdoor furniture brand that manufactures pieces in part from recycled plastic sourced from beaches, waterways and ocean-bound susceptible locations. The company says it incorporated over 75,000 pounds of that recycled material into its furniture in 2020, and roughly half of every resin-based wicker piece contains recycled material. Yardbird offsets its entire carbon footprint — including commuting, transportation, warehousing, showroom and office energy use — using CarbonFund. The business operates a digital direct-to-consumer model and has increased investment in its website amid the pandemic. Its supply chain runs through China; the company altered inventory plans when the outbreak hit China and later scaled back as U.S. demand and conditions remained uncertain. Yardbird moved to contactless delivery in late March, has seen steady online sales, and has secured bank lines of credit to help weather the pandemic.
