Yewno

Overview

Yewno builds a knowledge-discovery inference engine that mimics the human brain, combining machine learning, cognitive science, neural networks, and computational linguistics into a highly visual platform. Its flagship offering, Yewno for Education, is in use at leading research universities including Harvard, MIT, NYU, Stanford, Stonehill College, UC Berkeley, the University of Michigan, and the Bavarian State Library. The company reports a knowledge base that now exceeds more than 50 million vetted, quality items drawn from publishers, aggregators, and universities. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., with offices in London, Yewno says its system visually clusters and correlates concepts to resemble human inferential processes. The company plans to use the new funds to further develop its knowledge base and inference engine and to roll out into additional vertical markets and geographies beginning in early 2017, with particular interest in publishing where the new investor brings expertise and Asian market access. Pacific Capital Group remains a participating investor as Yewno prepares broader commercial expansion. Yewno develops a knowledge discovery platform that leverages computational semantics, graph theory and machine learning to connect concepts and information directly to content presentation. The platform searches and chains concepts to resemble a human inferential cognitive process. Founded in 2011 and led by CEO Ruggero Gramatica (former CIO & Founding Partner of Fastweb), the company exited a two-year stealth period and has signed more than two dozen partners including research universities, publishing houses and content aggregators. The company is based in Redwood City, California, and London, UK. Yewno closed a $10M Series A and plans to use the funds to accelerate go-to-market activities, expand support for vertical areas where its technology is applied, and grow its technical, business and support teams.
