Yousician offers an interactive, gamified app for learning guitar, piano, ukulele, bass and singing, with users advancing through a standard syllabus while the app listens and grades performance. It also operates GuitarTuna, a guitar tuning app, and uses a freemium model with one free lesson per day and Premium/Premium+ subscriptions starting at $19.99 per month for expanded access. Monthly users grew from 14.5 million to 20 million over the past year and subscriptions increased 80%, producing $50 million in revenue last year. During the pandemic the company provided free premium subscriptions to more than 100,000 teachers and students. With the new funding it plans to grow the team, improve brand marketing, localize the product and build more relationships with musical artists. Founded a decade ago and based in Helsinki, Yousician aims to make musicality as common as literacy by lowering the cost and friction of learning an instrument.
