YouWho is building a marketplace that digs up old family photos and documents and links them to family members and direct descendants. The site lets users upload and tag content, integrates with Facebook via the open API, and uses facial recognition plus photo metadata to attempt matches. YouWho licenses content from original owners and also procures photographs and memorabilia from attics and thrift stores rather than owning the material outright. The company is positioning itself to sell artifacts at premium prices to people with emotional connections to the content and uses the tagline “show you who you are.” Cofounders include Andre Brummer and Tom Stockham, the former chief executive of Ancestry.com; the team unveiled the stealthy startup at the VCIR conference in Park City, Utah. YouWho says it already has 200 million pieces of content stored in its back end, has secured seed funding, and is seeking additional capital.
