Overview

YQuantum is a Zurich-based engineering startup founded in 2024 by Dr. Christian Jünger, Dr. Johannes Herrmann, and Prof. Christian Schönenberger to tackle one of quantum computing’s biggest hurdles: hardware scalability. Leveraging research experience from UC Berkeley, ETH Zurich, and the University of Basel, the company designs compact, high-fidelity cryogenic components that enable reliable superconducting and spin-qubit operations. These miniaturised modules replace the bulky, complex set-ups that currently constrain quantum processors, paving the way for systems that can house thousands of qubits. The team targets a broad customer base ranging from academic laboratories to large technology firms building commercial quantum platforms. Venture Kick’s recent backing underscores growing European demand for enabling quantum-hardware technologies. While still pre-revenue, YQuantum intends to use the fresh capital to expand R&D, accelerate product commercialisation, and deepen customer engagement. By shrinking hardware footprints and boosting performance, the company hopes to move quantum computing from laboratory demonstrations to practical, large-scale deployment.
