Yangpu District Lazhou Road Room 681 207B, Shanghai, China
Overview
Yummy77 operates a food delivery and specialty online grocery site focused on fresh groceries and gourmet food items. The company confirmed a capital injection on its Weibo account and said it will use the funds to expand into new markets while remaining independently operated. Yummy77 will also help Amazon’s China site expand its selection of goods as part of the partnership. TechNode reported Yummy77’s sales exceeded ¥100 million (about $16M) in December 2013 and it had roughly 1 million registered users as of February. The online grocery market in China is growing rapidly and is already served by major e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba’s Taobao, JD.com, and competitors like Yihaodian (in which Walmart holds a stake). A Kantar study cited in reporting notes online purchases per customer are only modestly cheaper than brick-and-mortar, underscoring different competitive dynamics for online grocers.
