The company focuses on novel medicines in oncology, autoimmune disorders and anti-infectives and will primarily in-license assets for the China/Asia or global markets. ZAI plans to advance most programs through Phase II before partnering, and in some cases may complete clinical development itself. The team is led by CEO Dr. Samantha Du, previously founder and CEO of Hutchison MediPharma and a former healthcare investor at Sequoia Capital in China. ZAI has limited near-term staffing plans of about 50 employees and has already completed its first in-licensing deal for two Sanofi respiratory candidates with preclinical work finished. The company recently secured Series A funding to support its clinical programs and in-licensing activities.
