Zebra Labs creates virtual idols and reusable intellectual property that appear in music videos, games and other virtual events. The company produces animated avatars—some based on real-life stars and others original—and cultivates audiences through short films, images and social posts, monetizing via NFT sales and licensing fees. Zebra Labs produced a music video for Wowkie Zhang and is turning the video's avatar, Zookie, into NFTs and other IP assets. The startup has five other artists in the pipeline and plans to release a digital twin of Zhang by Q1 2023. It is in talks with gaming firms to host virtual concerts inside a Minecraft-like game and a metaverse platform by 2023. The company recently raised $5 million from NetDragon and Sumitomo and is also backed by SOSV. Its collaboration with Wowkie Zhang's video has garnered about 40 million clicks across online channels.
