Simplyk is a Montréal-based startup that offers a free, all-in-one fundraising platform for nonprofits to manage donations, ticketing, memberships and volunteer recruitment. The company funds operations by asking donors to add a small optional contribution alongside their donation, which the CEO says three out of four donors make. Simplyk has signed up more than 4,000 nonprofits, including branches of Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA and United Way, and counts 25 Canadian agencies as customers. The product began as a volunteer-matching marketplace launched in 2016 after the CEO moved to Montréal in 2014, and the company pivoted to a management platform in 2018. Simplyk says it is investing heavily to grow market share, expects to reach break-even within the next 18 months, and plans to use new capital to expand into the United States.
