Zencastr is a remote podcast production platform offering high-quality local audio recording, cloud storage, and a beta HD video recording feature. Founded in late 2014 and based in Salt Lake City, the company says it is used by around 6% of all podcasts (based on an estimated 800,000–1.2M active shows) and has seen roughly 147% growth in podcasting hours since the start of COVID-19. Its video beta—now open to all users—adds HD video files, live chat, footnotes, and a soundboard aimed at real-time editing, though reviewers noted some audio delay and that the video presentation remains less sophisticated. Zencastr was bootstrapped and self-funded until this raise and the company reports having been consistently profitable. The company operates with a fully distributed team across 11 countries and plans to use the new funding to hire, smooth platform stability issues, and support a rebrand. Zencastr also launched a "Digital Nomad" podcast series but says it is not pursuing a major push into producing original content.
