Zencoder is a San Francisco-based provider of cloud-based video encoding solutions. Its products enable content providers to deploy Internet video to consumers on virtually any Internet-connected device. The company built the VideoJS HTML5 Video Player (available for free) using JavaScript and CSS; the player works on major HTML5 platforms for web and mobile and automatically reverts to Flash if HTML5 video is not supported. Zencoder serves customers such as PBS Television, TwitVid, Posterous and College Humor. It was founded in 2010 by Jon Dahl, Brandon Arbini and Steve Heffernan. The company secured $2M in funding and intends to use the capital to continue developing its technology.
